CSC: Youth Programs / Education Opportunities: Year Round Youth Activities

Year Round Youth Activities

CSC offers a work training and education program for low-income youth 14-21 years of age. The purpose of the youth activities is to decrease risk factors by creating a program that provides positive opportunities for youth of the community.

Under WIA, comprehensive year round youth services consist of ten program elements which can be grouped around four major themes:

Improving educational achievement (including such elements as tutoring, study skills training, and instruction leading to secondary school completion; drop out prevention strategies, and alternative secondary school offerings)

Preparing for and succeeding in employment (including summer employment opportunities, paid and unpaid work experience, and occupational skills training)

Supporting youth (including meeting supportive services needs and providing adult mentoring, follow-up services, and comprehensive guidance and counseling)

Offering services intended to develop the potential of youth as citizens and leaders (including leadership development opportunities).

Eligibility is based on both low income status and existence of risk factors which include:

Basic literacy skills deficiency
high school dropout
homeless runaway or foster child
pregnant or a teen parent
an offender
requiring additional assistance to complete and educational program or secure and keep a job.
