Transitional Housing
The purpose of the Transitional program is to move low-income households
toward self sufficiency by identifying and removing barriers, integrating
services, and developing plans for financial and emotional stability. This
program may provide six to twelve months of housing and/or utility co-payments;
aid in identifying barriers to self-sufficiency; and assist in developing and
carrying out short and long term goals for financial and emotional stability.
The Eligibility Pre-screening for this program is as follows:
Household must meet one of the Federal Preferences of the Housing Act of 1937.
Preference is given to households in the following order:

Homeless or living in a shelter;

Involuntary displacement;

Occupying substandard housing; or
-
Paying greater than 50% of the household income for rent.
Dependent children are not a requirement of this program;
Income is at or below 50% of the Adjusted Area Median Income for the county
they will live in;
Situation must not be self-caused;
Household must not have received CSC Transitional Housing funds in the past;
Household members must be good candidates in terms of motivation and
probability of becoming self-sufficient;
Households plan for self-sufficiency will allow the household to maintain the
housing unit at the close of grant;
Household must have found suitable permanent housing and be able to maintain
the housing in the foreseeable future.
If eligible, a client must schedule an appointment with a service
coordinator. Documentation needed to prove eligibility is: proof of all monies
received in the 30 days prior to the date of appointment; social security
numbers and birthdates of all household members; monthly income and expense
information; and landlord information (name, address, phone number, total rent
amount, move-in costs, if heat is included in the rent, etc.).
