What is Senior Peer Counseling?
| The Senior Peer Counseling program is a free, confidential, in-home program for adults age 55+. It provides informed, resourceful peers for older adults who are in the midst of making a decision, overcoming difficulties, or facing one of life's many changes. What is a Peer Counselor?
A Peer Counselor is a trained volunteer (supervised by a professional) who helps connect seniors with beneficial services. Peer Counselors attend a 12-week training course and attend regular follow-up meetings with social service professionals.A peer counselor can connect you with services that encourage you to maintain independence. He/she is trained to help with a variety of circumstances:
Social isolation
| Mild depression
| Loss of a love one
| Anxiety and confusion
| Adjustment to changes
| Relationship problems
| Chronic illness
| Indecision | |
The Peer Counseling Program is overseen by a collaboration of four regional agencies: Benton County Mental Health, Linn County Mental Health, RSVP and Cascades West Senior Services.
