WHO Gleaners are people with low incomes who are able to contribute to the collection and distribution of food that would otherwise go to waste. They are seniors on fixed incomes, families with children, people with disabilities; folks just like you.
HOW Gleaning groups are great sources of supplementary, high quality food for people who want to help others as they help themselves and their families. Gleaners must participate in the day-to-day operations of their groups. This includes caring for adoptee members and helping with fundraisers, as well as gleaning food from fields and markets.
MORE Woodshare is a component of the Gleaning Program. Woodshare volunteers collect donated firewood and distribute it to low income members of the gleaning groups who rely on firewood to heat their homes.
OUR DONORS All of our donors receive a receipt for tax purposes. All food donors are covered by Oregon and federal Good Samaritan laws that protect good-faith donors from civil and criminal liability. Our donors are assured that the products they donate are being carefully handled and are distributed to low income households.
