CSC: Housing Programs/ Emergency Services: Emergency Housing  

Emergency Housing

We provide over 9,800 nights of permanent emergency housing to families with children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Those assisted must be capable of progress toward self-sufficiency through short-term financial assistance.

The purpose of the Emergency Housing program is to assist low-income families with children, who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, transition into or maintain permanent affordable housing. This program may provide one to three months of housing and/or utility co-payments; aid in identifying barriers to self-sufficiency; and assist in developing and carrying out plans for financial and emotional stability.

Am I Eligible? 

The Eligibility Prescreening for this program is as follows:

Household must meet the State’s definition of "homeless" at the time services are provided (No regular night time or adequate residence or has a 72 hour eviction notice, shut off notice or foreclosure which, if executed, will cause the household to be homeless.);

Dependent children must be residing with the household;

Income is at or below 150% of poverty;

Situation must not be self-caused;

Household must not have received CSC emergency housing funds in the past or received emergency assistance from Adult and Family Services in the prior 12 months;

Household must not have other assets that can be made available to meet the need;

Household must have found suitable permanent housing and be able to maintain the housing in the foreseeable future; and

The household members must be good candidates in terms of motivation and probability of becoming self-sufficient.

How can I apply? 

If eligible, a client must schedule an appointment with a service coordinator. Documentation needed to prove eligibility is: proof of all monies received in the 30 days prior to the date of appointment; social security numbers and birthdates of all household members; and landlord information (name, address, phone number, total rent amount, move-in costs, etc.).
